Entry 21: Winterfest

Day 53

Charles cooks the grand breakfast for Winterfest morning. He’s been looking forward to it for days.

We both have our normal day off today and the kids never go to school on holidays. It seems school is more open to days off than workplaces. In fact, they insist no one comes to school on holidays, even though very few people celebrate them.

We don’t have enough room to seat the whole family down in the kitchen area anymore, so Venture volunteers to sit on the stool in the corner. He says he just wants to focus on eating everything he can fit in his mouth. Ha! Like father, like son.

It’s nice, sitting down for a celebratory meal. I can’t remember if I’ve ever done this, but it does feel familiar.

(You may have noticed the decals on the walls the last few times I’ve taken pictures in the basements. We picked these up on a recent Sunday to spice up the place. They don’t give off an environmental score so looters didn’t touch them in the days following the meltdown. Journey managed to wheedle that information out of the seller. I look forward to when she joins the market herself.)

After breakfast, we have a snowball fight.

And now Journey is going through a bear phase of her own… just like her big brother did.

This is a different bear costume! How many of these things are hiding around the neighbourhood?

*sigh* Okay. You can be a bear, Journey.

We get a surprise visit from Father Winter. I didn’t realise he came to Glassbolt. We don’t have a present pile or a fireplace for him because those things are luxury we can’t get our hands on at the moment, even if we had room for them.

We can’t yet use the gifts he gave the kids, so we just save them for later.

(Creator note: I’ve been perusing the Apocalypse Challenge page and came across an interesting comment from Pinstar that states sims can change aspirations IF they’ve completed the previous one. I didn’t realise this was the case–I thought you couldn’t change aspirations EVER until Musician is lifted–and will be playing under Pinstar’s ruling from now on. Also, I won’t be using present piles until I’ve lifted a few more restrictions. Not sure which ones, maybe Comedian and Tech Guru – Startup.)

(Another creator note: I also recently figured out that free will is not specifically required to be on for the Apocalypse Challenge. Some other players play this challenge with it off, and I’m now one of them. The Chambers family was driving me up with the wall because they kept trying to do restricted actions or cancelling my commands to go do other things. NO MORE.)
