Day 29

Winter has ended and the stream has thawed enough to fish again. Charles and I ate more than our share of spoiled meals over the winter to ensure our supplies lasted… and so we didn’t have to grill fish in the middle of a blizzard. He’s a glutton so it doesn’t bother him, and I figured out a trick. If I only eat about half the dish, I don’t feel sick.
Anyway, I shouldn’t have to do that again for a while. Maybe never, if Charles becomes a level 10 chef before next winter.

We’ve done a little remodelling now that we’ve reached another Sunday. The size and item quality restrictions mean we barely even make a dent in the money we’ve earned this past week. I think the mob will be getting a larger payout this time.
We add a third toddler bed and crib, just in case. The house is starting feel cramped, even with 4 levels and 2 basements. We’ve managed to stash a bed on the top level, but most of it is dedicated to a rocket ship one of our descendants will build. My fingers itch whenever I look at it, as if they know what to do.
Maybe, if I’m still around when the time comes, I can help build it.

Today is a day of birthdays. I wake while Charles is at work to age up into adulthood. It makes me sad for some reason, and not just because I’m older. I guess it’s another deeply buried memory of previous birthdays. Maybe I used to have parties. We can’t do that here.

Then I head up stairs and help Venture celebrate his birthday. At least one of us gets a little fanfare. He’s an independent toddler, which is probably good for a first child. I’m still learning what to do here.

Charles comes home with a promotion to level 6 as Head Caterer. If we’re lucky, we only have two weeks left of nothing but fried fish.
